FRANCAIS

ENGLISH

On June 2nd, 1856, the first train, a convoy of goods from Argenton-sur-Creuse, arrives in Limoges while the station is just a booth of planks on the site of a former Benedictine convent. In 1858, a first station in hard is completed, work of Pierre-Louis Renaud, architect of the station of Paris-Austerlitz.

Since 1908, given the increase in attendance, the expansion project of the station is studied but it is only in March 1924 that the work begins according to the plans of the architect Roger Gonthier: it consists of a concrete building (an innovation for the time) in elevation over the tracks with a copper dome and 60 meter-high campanile and stained glass windows and statues representing the railway company but also the region. It is inaugurated on July 2nd, 1929.
In 2015, Vanity Fair ranked the station of Limoges-Bénédictins among the 15 most beautiful stations in the WORLD
