Sasco was a company mining town created in 1903 when a number of smaller operations were combined into the Imperial Copper Company and Silver Bell Mine. The town was created to serve the power plant, mill, mines and railroad as well as the hotel, stores and saloons and other nightlife. Financial problems caused the closure of the mine in 1911 but it was reopened in 1915. It faced another threat with the outbreak of the influenza epidemic of 1918. The mine closed in 1921 and by 1933 the town had been demolished. Today the hotel, jail and a lot of foundations are still visible. It is a sporting destination for those who like to shoot rocks and debris. The remains of the hotel are the most prominent sign of a prior life.
