Ryegate Testicle Festival began in 1984 and continued for several decades. A very popular event held annually in June, just in time for the castration of calves: it was held because of this annual event for the young calves.
Local rancher after the castrations of the bull calves, they brought the testicles to the Ryegate Bar and everyone enjoyed the feast. Visitors from all over Montana and places beyond came to this annual event to experience Rocky Mountain oysters.
The festival was discontinued, as the testicles were donated by local ranchers and were not USDA approved. Talking with the owner, the festival is still missed today and most residents that remember "way back when" still wanted it to continue. There are no current plans for it to begin again.
