The University of Sussex is a public research university in Brighton. Its campus is located within the South Downs National Park and is a short distance away from Central Brighton. The university received its Royal Charter in August 1961, and was a founding member of the 1994 Group of research-intensive universities.
From 1998 to 2009, Lord Richard Attenborough, CBE, was Chancellor of the University.
The university is known for it's environmentally friendly stances and is situated in the only Green Party constituency.
