When near Mullan this is a MUST see, and while you are there fill your water jugs from the drinking fountain. The water for these fountains is from Gold Creek that flows year round and there is enough pressure to keep the fountains flowing.
Elmer Almquist who built these fountains was a silver miner, resident of Mullan. He was part owner of the Sunshine mine and he died in March 1986.
These fountain were formerly name "Arnold's Fountain". Built in early 1980's out of salvaged mining parts in honor of the former landowner, Mr. Arnold, and for the benefit of passersby.
The larger bowls came from the famous Sunshine Mine. The smaller bowls came from the Mountain Goat Mine. The picnic table top was once part of the Murray jail. After the man who built them died, it was decided to rename the fountains in his honor: Elmer's Fountain.
