Trenton Collegiate Institute was founded in 1917 to serve as the higher institute of learning for those students from Trenton and the surrounding communities, the majority of which were taught in one and two-room schoolhouse up until then.
The school remained in operation until the 1970's, when the student body was transferred to nearby Trenton High School.
The former school served in a variety of roles for the schoolboard, including as Board Office, before being sold to private interests who converted it back into a privately-run International student high school. It is named Horizon Secondary School.
