This sign of history is located at a small pocket park at the corner of Cedar Street and Houston Street across from the Cedar Hill Town Square in downtown Cedar Hill Texas.
The sign reads as follows:
"CEDAR HILL TOWN SQUARE
This marker was dedicated during the Texas sesquicentennial for the enjoyment of the citizens of our community and commemorates the Cedar Hill town square, which is been a business community since 1880.
The town square was laid out by J. M. Williams of the Santa Fe Railroad and the first plat of the square was filed in 1871 by Wm. C. Hart. The remainder of the town was laid out in 1879.
In 1880 the merchants operating on this town square were: four general merchandising stores, three doctors (two of which also practiced as druggist), four cotton gins (two associated with the general merchandising stores), one saddlery and harness shop, one mechanic, and one attorney.
Special recognition is given to the Cedar Hill men and women who founded this district."
