The Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank (BLKB) has set up 150 benches with historical information throughout the canton of Basel-Landschaft for its 150th anniversary. Each bank contains a different year and a sign with historical information about the place. This bench is a bit strange, because according to the official list, the bench with the year 1864 should actually be in Liestal.

"Ettingen - 1864

Ettingen has a long history. Some 12,000 years ago, people had stayed there, later until about 1800 BC. Chr., There were Neolithic clans and again later one suspects also a Roman estate. The village was finally founded in the 5th or 6th century by Alemanni along a stream that today runs underground. Ettingen has its name from the leader of that clan. The man's name was Etto. Or Atto.

After the dissolution of the Prince-Bishopric of Basel in 1792, the village fell under French rule, in 1815 the Congress of Vienna assigned it to the city of Basel. In 1833, Ettingen turned towards the new canton of Basel-Landschaft.

"Ettingen - 1864

Ettingen hat eine lange Geschichte. Schon vor etwa 12 000 Jahren mussten sich dort Menschen aufgehalten haben, später, bis etwa 1800 v. Chr., gab es jungsteinzeitliche Sippen und nochmals später vermutet man auch einen römischen Gutshof. Das Dorf schliesslich entstand im 5. oder 6. Jahrhundert durch Alemannen entlang eines Bachs, der heute unterirdisch verläuft. Den Namen hat Ettingen vom Anführer jener Gründersippe. Der Mann hiess Etto. Oder Atto.

Nach der Auflösung des Fürstbistums Basel 1792 fiel das Dorf unter französische Herrschaft, 1815 teilte es der Wiener Kongress der Stadt Basel zu. 1833 wandte sich Ettingen dem neuen Kanton Basel-Landschaft zu.
