Out on a pleasant Sunday afternoon, we drove along some country roads east of Oklahoma City, hunting for the elusive WPA culverts that we knew were there. You have to really be observant because all that is visible from the road is a short "curb" on the shoulder, often half-covered with grass.
This culvert is located on Luther Road, north of Route 66 and the town of Luther. It has a concrete tunnel about five feet high under the road, and allows drainage from a nearby unnamed creek to flow under Luther Road. As with all these culverts, the WPA shield with the date 1938 is embossed in the curbing. The website shown below gives a nice history of New Deal road work in Oklahoma.
