Die ersten Grabungen an diesem Stollen erfolgte wohl schon von den Römern. Bekannt sind die Grabungen 1722 durch Landgraf Friedrich III. Ca. 100 Meter wurde in die Erde gegraben. Aber das gesuchte Gold war nicht zu finden.

Heute ist der Stollen verschlosen. Nur Fledermäuse dürfen hinein. Weiteres ist auf Wikipedia zu lesen: (visit link)

It is estimated that the Romans might have done the initiall digging. It is known, that landgrave Friedrich III. continued to mine here. About 100 meter long is the mine. But, no gold was found.

Today the mine is closed. only bats live inside the mine. The German Wikipedia has some further details.
