I believe these Coordinates that are inscribed here, are from Captain Cook's measurement back in 1770, while observing Smoky Cape from a distance.

Where this pillar, and Orientation Table is placed is called Captain Cook's Lookout. [So it seems a sensible assumption that the following inscription, and Permanent Geographical Coordinates, are from Captain Cook's log from discovering the east coast of what is now called Australia in 1770.]

The engraved stainless steel plaque reads:

"At noon we were by observation in the Latitude of 30° 43 S and Longitude 206° 45 W[.] The northern most part of which bore from us N13° W and a point or headland on which were fires that caused a great quantity of smoke which occasioned my giving it the name of SMOKY CAPE[.] Bore SW distance 4 leagues [,] it is moderately high land"

The 'immediate' conversion of the above coordinates would be:
S30° 43' E153° 15'

Visited: 1000, Sunday, 30 April, 2017 - while hosting a CITO Event along the nearby track.
Type of structure: Structure

Difference between the post coordinates and your GPSr reading:
Captain Cook's observation, 27.62 km NE from Smoky Cape.

Reason for the coordinates: Sighting of 'Smoky Cape' by Captain James Cook in 1770
