In 1990, the Ganghofer Museum was inaugurated in the former Leutasch primary school, very close to the church. The building dates from 1950, its classrooms were transformed into a museum. Since 2009 this building also serves as a house of culture; various events such as lectures, cabarets, exhibitions and readings are held here. A new museum garden is also part of the building. The museum tells the life and work of Ludwig Ganghofer, the most read and filmed German writer of his time.
The history of the village and the traditional hunting in the Leutasch Valley are also exhibited in the Ganghofer Museum. Maximilian I, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, spent some time in Leutasch in the sixteenth century to go hunting.
Ludwig Ganghofer (* 1855, † 1920) was one of the best-known regional authors of the late nineteenth century. For 20 years, the German writer spent most of his time in his summer house near the Tillfussalm in the Gaistal valley in Leutasch. In this house was created most of his work, like his most famous novel "The silence in the forest" (Das Schweigen im Walde, in German). Ganghofer received Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Richard Strauss, Franz Defregger and Mathias Schmid, but also all the Vienna Burgtheater Ensemble in his "Hubertus Castle". Among his friends were Johannes Brahms, Rainer Maria Rilke, Thomas Mann and the Emperor himself, Kaiser Wilhelm II. from Hohenzollern's house.
The admission fee to the museum is 3 euros, with a guest card 2.50 euros, 4.50 euros with guide, children under 14 have free admission.
