This church was founded in 1812 by local African American and European American citizens and was built in the 1830s by donations of lumber, labor, grain and money. During the time of slavery, this was one of many sites in Oswego County that was known by the Underground Railroad as a safe place to hide while waiting to escape to Canada. Here you will find actual letters written by slaves that had spent time here, you can view the original wainscoating woodwork, windows, and carved lintel. This church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The church was proud to have both white and black members, many who were active in the Freedom Movement.
