FR Le baptistère de Riez est un édifice paléochrétien édifié entre les ve et viie siècles.
La première description du baptistère est faite par Simon Bartel dans son ouvrage Histoire ecclésiastique du diocèse de Riez, en 1636. Le père Miraillet fait une description de l'édifice en 1654. La découverte d'inscriptions dans le sol de Riez se rapportant à la construction d'un temple dédié à Cybèle a fait croire à une attribution à cette déesse. La découverte d'autres stèles votives à plusieurs dieux dans le sol de Riez a fait croire que l'édifice était un bâtiment antique dédié à tous les dieux et qui a été surnommé le « Panthéon ».

Le baptistère est un édifice carré de neuf mètres de côté construit en moellons et présentant des chaînages d'angle en pierre de taille. Sur tout son pourtour, l'édifice repose sur un soubassement d'une hauteur de cinq moellons environ.

L'entrée se situe sur la façade est. Les façades sud et nord sont chacune percée d'une fenêtre encadrée de pierre de taille alors que la façade ouest est aveugle.
La toiture actuelle date du début du xixe siècle : elle est constituée d'un toit de tuiles quadrangulaire entourant la coupole octogonale, de dimensions nettement plus modeste que dans le passé. Le toit est agrémenté d'un clocher-mur en pierre de taille.

Comparable au baptistère de Fréjus, dans le Var, le baptisère de Riez est de plan octogonal inscrit dans une construction de plan carré; quatre absidioles, dont l'une contient l’autel, se greffent sur les pans coupés et s'enfoncent dans la maçonnerie, sans faire saillie à l'extérieur.
La coupole (refaite au xiie siècle) repose sur huit colonnes antiques de granit surmontées de chapiteaux corinthiens de marbre. Ces colonnes, disposées en cercle, entourent la cuve baptismale, dont il ne reste que des débris.

L'ingresso è sul lato est. Le facciate sud e nord sono tutte forate da una finestra di pietra incorniciata mentre la facciata ovest è cieca.
Il tetto attuale risale all'inizio del XIX secolo: consiste in un tetto a mattonelle quadrangolari che circonda la cupola ottagonale, che è molto più piccola rispetto al passato. Il tetto è impreziosito da una pietra da muro di cinta.

Simile al battistero di Fréjus, nel Var, il battesimo di Riez è di pianta ottagonale inscritto in una costruzione a pianta quadrata; quattro absidiidi, uno dei quali contiene l'altare, sono innestati sui lati tagliati e affondano nella muratura, senza sporgere all'esterno.
La cupola (rifatta nel XII secolo) poggia su otto colonne di granito antico sormontate da capitelli marmorei corinzi. Queste colonne, disposte a cerchio, circondano il bacino battesimale, di cui rimangono solo i detriti.
EN The baptistery of Riez is a paleochristian building built between the fifth and seventh centuries.

The entrance is on the east side. The south and north facades are each pierced by a framed window of stone while the west facade is blind.
The current roof dates from the beginning of the nineteenth century: it consists of a quadrangular tile roof surrounding the octagonal cupola, which is much smaller than in the past. The roof is embellished with a belfry-wall stone.

Similar to the baptistery of Fréjus, in the Var, the baptism of Riez is of octagonal plan inscribed in a construction of square plan; four apsidioles, one of which contains the altar, are grafted on the cut sides and sink into the masonry, without protruding outside.
The cupola (redone in the twelfth century) rests on eight antique granite columns surmounted by Corinthian marble capitals. These columns, arranged in a circle, surround the baptismal basin, of which only debris remains.
