The church is mentioned for the first time in the Xth century as dependency of the Nouaillé Abbey. It will remain so throughout the Middle Ages. A church probably rebuilt in the Romanesque period in the 11th - 12th century as evidenced by the building itself and an inscription placed in re-use on the reverse of the facade.
In 1433 in the context of insecurity of the Hundred Years War, Charles VII authorized the abbot of Nouaillé to strengthen the church of Bouresse. In the nineteenth century on several restoration campaigns consolidate the whole.
The building has a plan in the shape of a Latin cross. It consists of a nave with three vessels, cut from a transept and ends with a semicircular apse. Originally, the arms of the transept were probably grafted with absidioles. The church as a whole dates from the 12th century, although changes have occurred over the centuries.
In the nineteenth century the church is restored: in 1835 for the vaults of the nave and in 1873 for the facade and the first bay that threatened to collapse.

L’église est mentionnée pour la 1ère fois au Xème siècle comme dépendance de l’Abbaye de Nouaillé. Elle le restera tout au long du Moyen Age. Une église probablement reconstruite à l’époque romane au XIème – XIIème siècle comme en témoigne l’édifice lui-même et une inscription placée en réemploi au revers de la façade.
En 1433 dans le contexte d’insécurité de la guerre de Cent Ans, Charles VII autorise l’abbé de Nouaillé à fortifier l’église de Bouresse. Au XIXème siècle sur plusieurs campagnes de restauration viennent consolider l’ensemble.
L’édifice présente un plan en forme de croix latine. Il se compose d’une nef à trois vaisseaux, coupé d’un transept et s’achève par une abside hémicirculaire. A l’origine les bras du transept étaient probablement greffés d’absidioles. Dans son ensemble l’église date du XIIème siècle, même si des modifications sont intervenus au fi des siècles.
Au XIXème siècle l’église est restaurée : en 1835 pour les voutes de la nef et en 1873 pour la façade et la 1ère travée qui menaçaient de s’écrouler.
