The original sundials made from the heartwood of Canary Pine wood were dated between 1733 and 1740. The current replacement wooden dials were made between 2011 and January 2017 based on Google Street View pictures. Note the two gnomons are parallel polar gnomons pointing north at the co-latitude angle to the vertical meridian noon line.
Nuestra Senora de Los Neives is a favourite saint of the local people. Every five years the elaborate statue of Our Lady is carried in a procession down a mountain trail in the Barranco de Los Neives to the main town of Santa Cruz de La Palma to the church of San Francisco de Asisi for veneration and celebrations. Winter rain and snow is very important for the agriculture and the economy of La Palma.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
