The grave of Col. Weld, who received the Medal of Honor for heroism during the Philippines Insurrection, rests in a place of deep honor at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio TX, near several other Medal of Honor recipients.
Col. Weld earned the Medal of Honor as a member of Company L, of the 8th U.S. Infantry Division on 5 Dec 1906 at La Paz, Leyte, Philippine Islands. His citation reads as follows:
"With his right arm cut open with a bolo, went to the assistance of a wounded constabulary officer and a fellow soldier who were surrounded by about 40 Pulajanes, and, using his disabled rifle as a club, beat back the assailants and rescued his party."
