Das Feuerwehrgerätehaus eine "Lex Hönningen"
Als "beispielhaftes Miteinander" bezeichnete seinerzeit Hermann Heiser, Bürgermeister der Verbandsgemeinde Altenahr, eine Aktion, die es bislang - wenn überhaupt - wohl nur höchst selten gegeben hatte.
Aus verschiedenen Gründen mußte unsere Wehr aus dem im Jahre 1964 gebaute Feuerwehrhaus weichen.
Das Haus war aufgrund seiner Größe den vielseitigen Anforderungen an eine heutige Wehr nur noch mit Einschränkungen gewachsen. Zum zweiten war der Standort aus verkehrspolizeilicher Sicht sehr ungünstig. Unsere Wehr mußte sich im Ernstfall den Weg zum Einsatzort zunächst durch eine engere Bebauung und eine ebenso enge Ausfahrt suchen.
Drittens stand das Haus im historischen Zentrum Hönningens, wo ein zwischenzeitlich fertiggestellter schmucker Dorfplatz mit einem romantischen Brunnen geplant war.
Wegen der für die Verbandsgemeinde hohen Kosten, die ein neues Feuerwehrgerätehaus naturgemäß mit sich bringt, erklärte sich unsere Wehr spontan bereit, selbst Hand anzulegen und sämtliche Bau- und Handwerkerarbeiten selbst zu erledigen, so daß für die Verbandsgemeinde und das Land lediglich Kosten für das benötigte Baumaterial entstanden.
"Das kann eine Lex Hönningen werden", erklärte Verbandsgemeindebürgermeister Hermann Heiser am Morgen des 23. Januar 1993, als die Wehr sich zum 1. Spatenstich einfand und damit offiziell mit dem Bau begann.
Fast täglich sah man von nun an in den Nachmittags- und Abendstunden und natürlich am Wochenende Wehrmitglieder an der Arbeit ihres neuen Feuerwehrgerätehauses.
Am 20. Mai 1994 wurde das Haus schließlich eingeweiht und seiner offiziellen Zweckbestimmung übergeben.
In dem 700 Kubikmeter umbauten Raum mit einer Nutzfläche von 116 Quadratmeter sind eine Fahrzeughalle, Schulungsraum, Abstellraum, ein WC-Trakt, Garderobe sowie ein weiterer großer Abstellraum im Dachgeschoß untergebracht.
Ein überdachter Freisitz erleichtert überdies die Gerätepflege. "
