The Métro got its name from François de Montmorency-Laval (1623–1703), the first bishop of Quebec and New France from 1674 to 1688.

Montmorency est à la fois une station terminale de la ligne orange du métro de Montréal et un terminus métropolitain de l'Agence métropolitaine de transport. La station fit partie du projet de prolongement du métro vers la ville de Laval et fut inaugurée le 28 avril 2007.

Saint François de Montmorency-Laval ou Monseigneur de Laval, né le 30 avril 1623 à Montigny-sur-Avre (France) et mort le 6 mai 1708 à Québec (Nouvelle-France), est le premier évêque de Québec et le fondateur du Séminaire de Québec1. Il a été déclaré saint par le pape François le 3 avril 2014 qui a utilisé le rare processus de canonisation équipollente2. Il est fêté le 6 mai, jour de son décès.

Montmorency station is a Montreal Metro station in Laval, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and serves the Orange Line. It is located in the Laval-des-Rapides.[1] The station is part of an extension to Laval and opened on April 28, 2007, becoming the northern terminus of the Orange Line. With the addition of the new stations, the Metro now generates an extra 60,000 daily passengers. As of 2010, 1,050,000 daily passengers use the Metro.[2]

Saint Francis-Xavier de Montmorency-Laval, M.E.P., commonly referred to as François de Laval (30 April 1623 – 6 May 1708), was the first Roman Catholic bishop of Quebec, appointed when he was 36 years old by Pope Alexander VII.
Laval was a member of the Montmorency family and was one of the most influential men of his day. He was a candidate for canonization by the Catholic Church after his death and was beatified in 1980 by Pope John Paul II. On 3 April 2014 Pope Francis made him a saint by "equipollent canonization".[1]
