Holy Cross Cemetery is in Silver Bow County, Montana. Butte is the county seat of Silver Bow County and has a population of approximately 33,853 residents. Butte was the site of the 1917 Speculator Mine disaster, the largest hard rock mining disaster in world history.

Holy Cross Cemetery is approximately 65 acres, making it one of the largest we visited while in Montana. The cemetery is very well maintained with large trees along the entrance and near the veterans section.

There are 14,657 known interments with some of the earliest in the early 1910s. In the front of the cemetery are mostly slightly raised granite grave markers, as you proceed towards the back are upright grave stones being some of the older sties.

A large religious statue is close to the entrance. Also as part of the cemetery towards the center is a section devoted to veterans, with row on row of white upright headstones some from the Spanish American War. The newer markers are slightly raised more in keeping with the newer section of the cemetery.
