This original millstone was imported from France in 1859 by C. H. Guenther to grind flour for his new mill in San Antonio TX. It was in use until 1893, when it was replaced by millstones that were more suited to steam-powered milling operations.

A bronze plaque on the stone reads as follows:

"Original millstone used for grinding wheat from 1859 to 1893. Millstone was imported from France. It arrived in Indianola, Texas by ship, then moved by oxen wagon to San Antonio."
