The King's Daughters

Between 1663 and 1673, more than 770 King's girls came from France and stepped ashore in Quebec.

Marguerite Bourgeoys, founder of the Congregation of Notre-Dame, designated under this name the girls, who are the beneficiaries of a royal dowry, who come to New France to "take a husband" and contribute to the settlement of the colony.

They are expected there.

In 1663, there are more than 700 single men for 65 girls to marry. In a few years, the population of the colony will triple from 3,000 to nearly 10,000.
