On three of the four faces of the tall, square, concrete Clock Tower are quite elevated, white marble plaques, for the locals who went to 'the Great War', many of whom did not return. While most of the text of the plaques is the same, they are for different areas of that conflict, being Gallipoli, 'Africa', and the Western Front. The text reads:
[Laurel Wreath]
In Memory of
THE FALLEN AND
OF
THOSE WHO SERVED
IN THE
GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
GALLIPOLI
[Laurel Wreath]
In Memory of
THE FALLEN AND
OF
THOSE WHO SERVED
IN THE
GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
FRANCE & BELGIUM
[Laurel Wreath]
In Memory of
THE FALLEN AND
OF
THOSE WHO SERVED
IN THE
GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
EGYPT
MESOPOTAMIA
Below the Memorial Clock Tower, on the base, is a smaller, white marble plaque, for the Dedication of the Clock Tower in 1927, which reads:
This stone was Laid by
Cr. J. Gamack Shire President
on ANZAC Day
1927
As this is close by the Wauchope Post Office, with quite a few car spaces suitable for short-term parking, it shouldn't be too hard to park on either High Street, or beside the Post Office.
