Carbonado Cemetery is in Carbon County, Montana located near Rock Creek known for great fishing and water recreation. Along Front Street/Hwy. 212 across from the library there is an array of public sculptures by local artist Charles Ringer. He creates most of his sculptures from recycled cars and other discarded metal.
Though we were in Joliet we were unable to locate Romeo, however we did encounter a few very handsome gentlemen who could think themselves as a "Romeo".
Carbonado Cemetery is approximately 1.5 acres in size and flat prairie with the area almost covered in Sagebrush Steppe that is left natural. It does not seem the cemetery was cared for recently. Though considered arid because of extensive irrigation there are an abundance of apples orchards in the area.
Carbonado Cemetery has approximately 32 known interments some with simple wooden crosses that are unknown. Some of the older grave sites do have granite headstones. We located some of the earliest graves:
Esteral Thomas Bronner was born February 20, 1900 and passed away on August 10, 1900, she was just over 5 months of age.
Harry Elroy Underwood who was born March 14, 1892 and passed away on July 2, 1900, he was 8 years of age.
Hazel Underwood who was born on December 17, 1898 and passed away on February 10, 1899, she was 56 days old.
Cassie K. Winkler who was born on May 20, 1896 and passed away on November 27, 1898, she was 2 years of age.
