This Civil War Memorial was erected in 1918 and has the following inscription:

This monument erected in honor and in
commemoration of the loyal patriotic
men who enlisted from the township
of Batavia Illinois in the War for the
Preservation of the Union 1861-1865

"On fame's eternal camping ground their silent
tents are spread and glory guards with solemn
round the bivouac of the dead"

Captain and Mrs. Don Carlos Newton

 

The monument has plaques on the other three sides listing the men and their units who had enlisted.
