Miyoshi Umeki (Hood) was a Japanese actress who won an Academy Award for her performance in 1957's "Sayonara", and is known to many of us as having played Mrs. Livingston from 1969 to 1972 on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father."

Mrs. Hood and her second husband, Randall Hood, are buried together in the northeast quadrant of Boone Creek Cemetery, within view of the road that travels through. Their modern, gray granite headstone has the family name, "Hood", at the top, and their personal dates are below:

Description:
Miyoshi Umeki was the first Asian woman to win an Academy Award, and as of 2018, the only one to do so. She initially began her career as a singer, ultimately recording a fairly large body of work, but her appearance on Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts drew attention, and she landed a role in Sayonara that added to her fame. She also made TV appearances and starred in both the Broadway and film versions of Flower Drum Song (1961). By the late 1960s, she was working less, and her last role was as Mrs. Livingston on The Courtship of Eddie's Father. She was married to director Wynn Opie for nine years before they divorced, and she married again in 1968, this time to director Randall Hood. Mr. Hood adopted Michael Opie, a son from the first marriage, and he became Michael Randall Hood. Mr. Hood died in 1976, and Mrs. Hood retired here to Licking late in life to be near her son and grandchildren, before passing away in 2007 at age 78.
