This bench can be found outside St. Paul's Church Hall on the Market Place in the town of Ramsey and it is dedicated to Susan Mary Bishop.
This wooden bench has a slatted seat and back and an arm rest. The bench was manufactured by a local company Wood Works is branded as a 'Kirk Seat'. The Company's website give the following information about the 'Kirk Seat':
'Made from sustainably sourced Iroko. Often used for memorial benches, and we can organise the plaques or engraving on your behalf. There is a choice of varied finishes inclusive in this price.
Dimensions
1.8 metre length to sit 3 or 4 people.'
The blue plaque on the back of the bench is inscribed as follows:
'SUSAN MARY BISHOP
1941-2013
DEARLY LOVED WIFE
MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER'
Along the top of the back rest is craved a musical stave below which is the following lyric:
'The Lord bless you and keep you
The Lord make his to shine up on you,
to shine up on you and be gra-cious,
and be gra-cious up to you.'
The bench looks out onto the Market Place and the busy harbour of the town which is an active commercial port.
