This ancient Indian mound is located in a neighborhood in Nacogdoches, near the Old University site. It preserves the history of ancient Caddo mounds destroyed by settlers, and the WPA writers found it remarkable enough to comment on it in the WPA Guide:
""On Mound St. at the Nacogdoches High School is the SITE OF NACOGDOCHES UNIVERSITY (open), established in 1845. The brick building that housed the male department still stands. A few Indian burial mounds remain in this vicinity. "
