The Rum Museum is housed in the elegant mansion of the Saint James distillery in Sainte Marie -

A dwelling dating from 1875 that was formerly the director of the adjoining factory. It was founded in 1979 and has enjoyed great success since then.

There is a very nice collection of old stills as well as various machines which allow to retrace the evolution of distillation techniques over the years.

The museum opens a wide panorama on the history of rum in Martinique. Other noteworthy elements include an impressive spear - or trigonocephalic - stuffed spear, a particularly dangerous species that was widespread in plantations until the early 20th century.

The shop on the ground floor makes it possible to pass pleasantly from theory to practice by proposing the free tasting of Saint James rums.
