This small pump jack is used in East Texas, where the oil deposits are difficult to access after being over-tapped in the 1930s.

This pump jack is located at the entrance to the Geology Building on the campus of Stephen F Austin State University. An oil well drill bit is located just a few feet west of the pump jack, and the same landscaped area by the Geology Building.
