This state historic marker was erected in 1936 at the site of the home of James Dille, the first Alcalde of Nacogdoches, when Nacogdoches and Texas were part of the Republic of Mexico.
The marker reads as follows:

Pioneer Indian trader.
Recognized by the King of Spain as a public-spirited citizen.
First alcalde of Nacogdoches under the Mexican government in 1821.
