The Broken Hill Courthouse (1899) is typical of those of western New South Wales. It is a major, two storey building with flanking wings, dominated by an arcaded verandah. It is but of stucco brick and is a good example of a late Victorian Courthouse.
"A good example of a late Victorian Courthouse being well maintained and complementing the other major buildings of the Civic Group.
Description
Built 1889. It is of stuccoed brick, has a two storey pedimented front with single storey side wing. Wide verandahs on paired timber columns and hipped roof reinforce the simple traditional design. The interior is original and mostly intact. The symmetrical design of the original block is dominated by the two storey height court room part containing a fine coat of arms at window level.
Location
240 Argent Street, corner of Sulphide Street, Broken Hill. Part of Civic Group."
