Just down from the Fire Station is this sign showing where you are, and where you may go - in respect to the Wollangambe Canyon.

Decades ago 'we' used to head into Du Faurs Canyon at the sharp hairpin bend on the way up to Mount Wilson. These days tho, the best way is to head down past this sign to Du Faurs Lookout.

If you haven't done Wollangambe Canyon with an experienced group in the past, then 'today' is NOT the time to test your skills. This sign outlines some important points for the canyons of this area north of Bells Line of Road. Remember, Steep cliffs enclose the river for its entire length. There are LIMITED EXIT ROUTES back to Mount Wilson. Canyoners need to be aware of the main exit route.

As this sign says, ARE YOU PREPARED?
** The Water is COLD! A wetsuit is essential to prevent hypothermia.
** There are long pools - Flotation and swimming skills essential.
** River Levels can Rise RAPIDLY - don't go if rain is forecast.
** Rock Scrambling Skills NEEDED.
** The Exit Track is STEEP with a short Exposed Climb.
** Big Groups can be Slow - allow plenty of time.
** Navigation Skills ARE Required - Map, Compass, GPSr. Know how to Use!
** Take a PLB !
* Good Fitness and Preparation will Greatly Improve Your Safety and Enjoyment of the Mount Wilson Canyons.

There is a sign at the exit of Wollangambe Canyon, or entry, if you want go a lot further downstream, which gives good advice on the nature of the Blue Mountains.
* Canyons can be dangerous.
* Flash flooding can occur. Don't enter any canyon if rain is forecast or looks likely.
* Some canyons are long and difficult are suitable for experienced canyoners only.

It's your Park - please help look after it!
- Please carry out rubbish, dispose of human waste away from canyons and leave crayfish alone.
- No fires are permitted in canyon areas.
- Avoid camping in canyon areas.
- Toilets are available at the Fire Station and Mt Wilson Village.

Safety Tips
* Take care!
* The water is very cold. Use wetsuits and store gear such as warm clothes and food in dry bags. Flotation aids such as lilos are advised for the Wollangambe.
* Wear a recognised safety helmet.
* All canyoners require good rock scrambling and swimming skills. Some canyons require good abseiling skills. Check you have the skill required in the canyon you are visiting.
* Test water depths and check for hidden hazards before jumping into pools.
* Surfaces can be slippery.
* Know the route, especially the exit.
* Navigation skills are essential.
* Keep your group small (4 - 8 persons).
* Have you left details of your group, route and return time with a responsible person?
* Are you prepared for an emergency such as injury, cold weather or changes in water levels (first aid kit, extra food and clothing, drinking water, fuel stove)?
