Frenchtown Cemetery also known as Saint John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery is in Missoula County, Montana. The approximate population of Frenchtown is 1,825 residents. The early settlers were French Canadians and thus the name Frenchtown. The first post office was established in 1868. Frenchtown is situated along the Clark Fork River in a valley called qua elth meaning state of tranquility by the American Indians from the region.
Frenchtown Cemetery is tiny at about 1/5 an acre. The cemetery has not been mowed lately as tall native grasses sway in the breeze. There are 326 known interments and the cemetery was officially established in 1884. However it is believed, based of the interments, it was originally the Bedard family cemetery with the first interments of three infants:
Julia Bedard born in 1874 and passed away September 4, 1877.
Joseph Bedard born in 1872 and passed away September 23, 1877.
Annie Bedard born in 1876 and passed away December 12, 1877.
After the cemetery was established the next interment was:
Joseph A Bouchard born in 1885 and passed away December 8, 1887.
