St. Joseph's Cemetery is in Ravalli County, Montana located in the Bitterroot Valley, south of Missoula.
St. Joseph's Cemetery is rather small and is approximately 1/3 acres in size. Do not be fooled by its size, as it is one of the more interesting cemeteries to visit. Towering old grave stones weathered with the passage of time stand witness to the past and for those that pioneered this area.
The cemetery is surrounded by a rail fence with native grasses that are kept nicely mowed. There are beautiful mountain vistas in the foreground and Montana's Big Sky.
St. Joseph's Cemetery was established in 1898 according to the sign. There are approximately 89 known interments. The first known interment was of:
James Luby was born in 1842 and passed away on September 6, 1901. His grave marker is pictured below; it is in the center.
