The relief, created about 1920, is of St Bartholomew. The present day-Church of San Francesco Di Paola was originally named after St Demetrius of Thessalonica when built in 840. The church was renovated in 1070 and named after St Batholomew. It kept its name until turned over to the Minim Friars in 1580. St Francesco in turn renovated and reconsecrated the church in 1619.
The relief is included as part of the Sestiere of Castella memorial to its honoured dead of the First World War.
