There are two pub signs a hanging sign and a pillory sign that depict a picture of a crown with the name of the pub in gold lettering beneath.

The pub was built in 1647 from local limestone and was established as a coaching inn to support the stage coaches travelling from Ashbourne to Manchester.

It small inside, with a snug bar area at one side and a larger lounge, connected by a long passage. There is a large car park outside and the guest beer can come from any brewery, large or small.
