On the corner of the "Shanghai Clearing House" building, on an intersection facing out into the street is engraved the year of the building: 1921. At that time this area of colonial era Shanghai, known as "The Bund" was the financial centre of the east with merchants from all over the world doing business here.
The inscription is somewhat faded but can still be made out as its centenary rapidly approaches.
