There was a swimming pool here that was a World War II memorial. It was too expensive to maintain so it was replaced with a park with a simple memorial.

HISTORIC BINGHAMTON POOL TO BE DEMOLISHED October 7, 2014 (
visit link)
"Signs indicate the pool was constructed to honor those who served in World War Two."
This popular pool was replaced with a park with a softball field and playgrounds and a simple World War II monument shaped like part of the original pool structure. There is a parking lot some distance from the memorial on Charles Street. The deadend road that leads directly to the monument has several no parking signs. The original memorial pool was built in 1950 according to the plaques.
