Marker denoting the location where Antonio Margarini, the Bishop of the Venetian Navy, was killed on 23 June,1797 after being betrayed by local forces loyal to Napoleon.

This was shortly followed by the collapse of the Venetian Forces and the surrender of Venice to Napoleon. It spelled the end of the the Venetian Republic after more than 1000 years.
