This pink granite DAR marker was placed in 1918 as a statewide project by the Daughters of the American Revolution to mark the route of the Old San Antonio Road.
The marker is located SH 21 west of San Augustine CR 135, at a roadside pullout with the 1936 centennial marker for the home of Elisha Roberts, where travelers along the El Camino Real could take refuge on their journey.
The DAR marker reads as follows:
"KING'S HIGHWAY CAMINO REAL Old San Antonio Road
Marked by the Daughters of the American Revolution and the State of Texas A. D. 1918"
The adjacent 1936 Centennial marker reads:
"SITE OF THE HOME OF ELISHA ROBERTS (1785-1844)
Early influential citizen
Important figure in the Fredonian Rebellion
Alcalde of San Augustine in 1831
A haven of hospitality to travelers
Erected by the State of Texas 1936"
