This nice Victorian Postbox is located inside the gate of the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda in St.John's, Antigua. On the nearby wall, there is a plaque giving some explanations.

"This pillar letterbox, which was used for posting letters on the roadside, was manufactured by Andrew Handyside & Co of the Brittania Foundry and Engineering works, Derby, England as indicated on the base. This company flourished during the great industrial revolution, also making bridges, railways for India, Russia and other parts of the world.

The cylindrical shape as opposed to the original hexagonal shape of 1866 became standard after 1876. This example, however, with the words "Post Office" and Queen Victoria's cypher "VR", standing for "Victoria Regina", was manufactured between 1887 and 1901.

Sometime within there years this letterbox was shipped out from England and installed at the west end of Newgate Street, St. John's.

It has been in continuous use until fairly recently. Simiar boxes are still in use and may be seen on St, Mary's and Temple Streets. "
