 Tuff is a soft and porous rock formed by calcareous deposits of spring water.
These tufa crosses are a peculiarity of the Vimeu. We do not know anything about their origins and they are all mysterious. To discover them, to go around them, to find the best angle to photograph them will always be a moment of emotion.
Is it a tomb cross or the cemetery cross? The little Virgin no doubt installed in the small niche carved in the shaft of the cross no longer appears on the drawing of Oswald Macqueron (1850). Mosses and lichens continue to coexist enjoying the porosity of the stone, a mixture of the ephemeral and the eternal!

 Le tuf est une roche tendre et poreuse formée par les dépôts calcaires de l'eau de source.
Ces croix en tuf sont une particularité du Vimeu. On ne connaît rien sur leurs origines et elles sont toutes mystérieuses. Les découvrir, en faire le tour, trouver le meilleur angle pour les photographier sera toujours un moment d'émotion.
Est-ce une croix de tombe ou la croix du cimetière? La petite Vierge sans doute installée dans la petite niche creusée dans le fût de la croix n'apparait plus sur le dessin d'Oswald Macqueron (1850). Mousses et lichens continuent de cohabiter profitant de la porosité de la pierre, mélange de l'éphémère et de l'éternel !
