Danmarks første vippefyr med åben brændekurv - opført i 1627.
De mange skibsforlis ved Skagens gren var den dirkete årsag til at fyret blev opført. Fyret skulle hjælpe med at lede skibsfarten fri af Grenen og det farlige rev derude.
Princippet er enkelt, man vipper kurven ned til jorden, fylder den med brændbart materiale og tænder op. Når fyret vippes op, kan den brændende kurv ses på lang afstand.
Vippefyret var i brug langt ind i 1700-tallet. Det sidste danske vippefyr blev nedlagt på Anholt i 1788.
Vippefyret i Skagen er en 100 % tro kopi af det gamle vippefyr -
rekonstrueret første gang af Carl Locher i 1913 i anledning af Skagen bys 500 års jubilæum. Seneste rekonstruktion er fra 1958 foretaget under bistand af Rotary Skagen.
Vippefyret tændes hvert år til Sct. Hans som fejres lige nedenfor på Sønderstrand med et stort bål på stranden og tusindvis af gæster.

The many shipwrecks arond Skagen was the reason why the lighthouse was built. The lighthouse helped lead the ships clear of "Grenen" and the dangerous reefs out there.
"Vippefyret" was in use well into the 1700s. The last Danish bascule was closed on Anholt in 1788.
"Vippefyret" in Skagen is a 100% replica of the old bascule -
reconstructed first time by Carl Locher in 1913 on the occasion of Skagen town's 500 year anniversary. Latest reconstruction is from 1958 made ??under the assistance of Rotary Skagen.
"Vippefyret" is "on duty" each year to Sct. Hans bonfire (23th of june) on the beach.
