Henry Lawson (1867 - 1922) wrote The Loaded Dog with the first few lines "Dave Regan, Jim Bently, and Andy Page were sinking a shaft at Stony Creek in search of a rich gold quartz reef which was supposed to exist in the vicinity. There is always a rich reef supposed to exist in the vicinity;"
The rich gold reef here would be the cold gold ale served on a hot day. Unfortunately I was far from home & on my way back from the back of beyond so an ale or even a quick visit inside were out of the question.
Fortunately the pub has an excellent website so if planning to stay a few days there is ample information to make your stay enjoyable. A photograph of the hotel taken in 1927 shows little change in the design.
