The Australian War Memorial records his name as William James McCarron. He served as a Private with the 45th Australian Infantry Battalion & he appeared on the Australian Red Cross Wounded & Missing Roll.

His headstone is part of a family plot in St. Bartholomew's Anglican Churchyard cemetery. His name also appears on the Great War Memorial on the church grounds as killed in France. The Windellama Newsletter issued May 2015 a pdf document under the heading Windellama Historical Society Inc (page 18) states:

Pte William James McCARRON. Killed in France 8 August 1918, Age 23. Service No. 4197 45th Australian Infantry Battalion. Son of Abraham and Martha McCarron of Braidwood. Born 1894 Braidwood.

His headstone is worded:

Aged 23 years.
