Oudeschild is an old supply harbour for the dutch east indian merchant fleet. Before the ships sail to asia, they go for mooring at Texel to get fresh water and other supplies.
The VOC is the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, the Dutch East India Company.
In ancient times, more than 300 ships lays in front of the town.
The cannon is a 9 pdr, typical weaponry for a merchantmen in the 17
th and 18th century.
