FR Construit sur l’emplacement de l’ancien Palais Comtal, le Palais de Justice est commandé en 1787 à Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, qui avait imaginé simultanément la restructuration du quartier. Plus de 200 maisons sont détruites pour créer ce nouvel édifice. La Révolution éclate et les travaux suspendus, ne reprendront qu’en 1822 légèrement modifiés par Michel Penchaud, l’architecte de la prison. Achevé en 1831, la Cour s’y installe le 13 novembre 1832. Devant le Palais des monuments à la gloire de Siméon et Portalis sont élevés en 1842, oeuvres de l’aixois Ramus inaugurées le 8 novembre 1847. Le fronton néoclassique prévu comme sur le Palais de Justice de Marseille, ne sera jamais réalisé.

Depuis 1979, les façades, hors surélévation moderne, ainsi que la salle des pas perdus, sont inscrits au titre des monuments historiques2.

Le palais de justice est actuellement utilisé pour les appels des affaires civiles et commerciales, ainsi que les jugements de la Cour d'assises.
EN Built on the site of the former Palais Comtal, the Palais de Justice was commissioned in 1787 by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, who had simultaneously imagined the restructuring of the district. More than 200 houses are destroyed to create this new building. The Revolution broke out and the suspended works, will only resume in 1822 slightly modified by Michel Penchaud, the architect of the prison. Completed in 1831, the Court settles there on November 13, 1832. In front of the Palace of the monuments to the glory of Simeon and Portalis are raised in 1842, works of the Aix Ramus inaugurated on November 8, 1847. The neoclassical pediment planned as on the Palais de Justice in Marseille, will never be realized.

Since 1979, the facades, excluding modern elevation, and the room not lost, are listed as historical monuments2.

The courthouse is currently used for appeals of civil and commercial cases, as well as judgments of the Assize Court.
