Barbara Ann Scott won the gold medal in ice skating at the 1948 Olympics. Barbara Ann Scott was born in Ottawa. As Canadian, European, World and Olympic champion, she was given the keys to the city by the mayor of Ottawa. It is appropriate, therefore, that there is in Ottawa a permanent exhibit to commemorate her achievements.

The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery is located on the ground floor of the city hall complex, near the south entrance. The exhibit room is free of charge and is open daily from 09h00 until 18h00. The exhibit includes many information panels and objects to celebrate her entire career. Olympic memorabilia include her actual gold medal and pins from the Olympics in St. Moritz.

A few weeks before she passed away, Barbara Ann Scott was present to officially open the gallery in August 2012.

Olympic
and World Champion
At the 1948 Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, Barbara Ann took to the ice for her free skate after two hockey games. In the hour before her performance, her coach Sheldon Galbraith helped her to reposition her routine to avoid ruts and shale ice. After Barbara Ann received the gold medal, the band played 'O Canada' and she remembered her father and his dream for her. She then proceeded to win the World Figure Skating Championships in Davos, Switzerland.

Championne Olympique
