FR Une fontaine fut édifiée à cet emplacement en 1713 mais la source à partir de laquelle elle tirait l'eau n'en apportait pas assez.

En temps de sécheresse, la population du quartier souffrait de ce manque, et des épidémies se propageaient.

En 1833, dans l'obligation de mettre un terme à ces pénuries répétées, on fora plus profondément dans le puits (la source) et ce fut un succès. Afin de célébrer ce nouveau flux d'eau, une fontaine d'où elle coulait de quatre canons fut construite après la démolition de l'ancienne, qui rappelait la misère.

La situation resta inchangée jusqu'en 1922 quand Sylvain Pascal, un riche commerçant de la rue des Cordeliers, décida d'honorer les habitants de son quartier avec une prestigieuse fontaine symbolisant la beauté et le charme de la Provence.

Le monument dessiné par l'architecte Lieutaud et exécuté par le sculpteur Baille, montre, sur une urne située au sommet, une farandole de 4 jeunes provençales, accompagnées sur le piédestal par un tambourinaire.

De chaque côté du massif au centre, sont représentées 2 têtes d'un Bacchus juvénile, dont les canons crachent l'eau dans 2 vastes coquilles.
EN A fountain was built at this site in 1713 but the source from which it drew the water did not bring enough.

In times of drought, the population of the neighborhood suffered from this lack, and epidemics spread.

In 1833, in the obligation to put an end to these repeated shortages, one drilled more deeply in the well (the source) and it was a success. To celebrate this new flow of water, a fountain from which it flowed four guns was built after the demolition of the old, which recalled the misery.

The situation remained unchanged until 1922 when Sylvain Pascal, a wealthy shopkeeper on rue des Cordeliers, decided to honor the inhabitants of his neighborhood with a prestigious fountain symbolizing the beauty and charm of Provence.

The monument designed by the architect Lieutaud and executed by the sculptor Baille, shows, on an urn located at the top, a farandole of 4 young Provencal, accompanied on the pedestal by a drummer.

On each side of the massif in the center, are represented 2 heads of a juvenile Bacchus, whose guns spit water in 2 large shells.
